The United Kingdom’s government department, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), declared on Friday, July 12th that it will soon send four technology startups from Canada to the UK, so they can share their experience as well as expertise with the local businesses in the country by taking part in the global adventure competition. The names of these four successful Canadian startups are Winnipeg’s Joist, Vancouver’s FundRazr, Montreal’s BusBud and Ottawa’s Gnowit. The UKTI has selected these start-ups by running a competition for which it had received 72 entries from all over Canada, which is more than what the UK Government department has received during last year.

On this occasion the UKTI also made it known that each of the winners will experience “a tailor-made business trip to the UK, including the opportunity to meet potential and existing clients, explore new market opportunities, engage with investors, and plan their international expansion.”

Talking about this privilege, the CEO of FundRazr, Daryl Hatton said that, “I’m really looking forward to meeting some of our amazing UK customers in person and starting the process of setting up our presence in London. Nothing strengthens a business relationship better than meeting face-to-face.”

The CEO of Busbud, Louis-Philippe Maurice said that they are also “looking to reinvent bus travel by being a ‘worldwide online bus station.’ Intercity bus travel is very popular in the UK and we look forward to connect with leading bus operators to form strategic partnerships. We also think London, a major worldwide travel hub, will be an excellent gateway to help us execute our broader European strategy.”

The Co-Founder of Joist, Justin Kathan said that, “Joist is most excited about meeting like-minded entrepreneurs from the UK when touring TechCity. Joist has heard much about TechCity as having an extremely vibrant startup culture and strong entrepreneurial and tech development talent.”

The CTO and cofounder of Gnowit, Shahzad Khan said that, “We are looking to expand to Europe within a year, and the UK would be an ideal location for our European HQ. I am looking forward to networking with the mentors, potential strategic partners, and investors that I plan to meet during this trip.”

The UK Government has actually formed UKTI not only to help the businesses based in the UK to achieve success in the international markets, but also to encourage top foreign companies to consider the UK as their best international partner. As a result of that today, this division of the UK government has successfully encouraged four top startups of Canada to look at the Great Britain as their global partner.
