Fanbase is a Vancouver-based startup that is giving marketing in the fashion industry a new twist. The firms application utilizes Instagram to help the marketing efforts of a company much like services for exploiting the potential of Facebook and Twitter. Fanbase founder Michael Zsigmond started the company last year and now has an international customer base. Zsigmond and his two partners have worked hard to gain customers as they worked with local Canadian clients. Their success their led to a project with a prominent fashion designer which caught the industries attention.

Zsigmond explaines Fanbase’s use of Instagram by stating that, “It’s the only purely mobile platform—there’s a lot of marketing platforms for Facebook and Twitter, I don’t want to say they’re dime a dozen, but they’re certainly common. So we wanted to differentiate ourselves. We’re not just a branded content aggregator; our focus is on user-generated content on mobile platforms. Right now Instagram’s the primary platform, but there are others, like SocialCam and Viddy, they’re the ones that we’re keeping an eye on for integration.”

Instagram is a mobile platform that allows users to share images with each other. This makes it a great ecosystem for fashion and its associated culture. Fanbase harnesses this massive potential to help market a company’s products and services. Fanbase’s fashion designer customer did face a lot of competition on Instagram. , there was competition, Michael admits. Zsigmond says, “For that client, we won it after their marketing team came back to us and after they looked at a few of our competitors, they said ‘The other apps were confusing, and yours is just so easy to use. New York Fashion Week’s going on, so their digital team just needs something that’s easy to run while they’re so busy.”

Fanbase is a simple three-step procedure that starts with the user logging into their account. They then make a hashtag, title, select whether the campaign is a contest or sweepstakes. They can also choose to activate Instagram comments. The marketers will then need to design the campaign page with a header and determine access rules.

Fanbase is also improving and expanding its service. They are adding features that will allow bloggers and other digital publications ti use their service. Advertising agencies and event organizers will also be getting features to share their work along with voting features.
