A group of researchers at China’s Zhejiang University have created a flying quadcopter that people can control with their thoughts. The aptly named Flying Buddy 2 is designed to serve as a personal flying assistant for the disabled and those with limited physical mobility. The incredible device could provide entertainment and help make their lives easier.
Buddy 2 is controlled by thinking of specific things while wearing an EEG headset. EEG stands for emotiv electroencephalography, a brain computer interface created by Australian firm Emotiv Systems. The company was founded by a collective of brilliant minds from the fields of neuroscience, design and technology entrepreneurship.
The thoughts that aid in directing the quadcopter are based on thinking left and right. According to geek.com, thinking left hard controls the taking off and landing functions, thinking left lightly controls rotation, thinking right moves the quadcopter forward, thinking push allows it to climb higher while clenching moves the flying device downwards.
The device and headset combo also allows for pictures to be taken by the user blinking. The system relays the aforementioned brain commands and transmits them to a computer via Bluetooth. Using good friend Wi-Fi, the computer communicates the brain commands to the device. Check out the video below.
