Many of us are big fans of the Android mascot, the adorable alien looking fellow who has become the symbol of the operating system. For those who are, allow us the pleasure of introducing BERO, the Google Android robot that is yours to command. Using an app on your smartphone or tablet, the 4” open source robot features a fully programmable and customizable interface.

According to the good people at Mashable, BERO’s software allows the robot to play your favourite songs while also dancing along to your musical choices with a myriad of moves including arm waves and poses. If that wasn’t enough, the robot’s headphones which sit atop his little head will light up to match the beat of the song being played. The headphone design modified the robot enough so as to avoid any type of legal repercussions from Google or Android.

The animated toy features six motors as well as an onboard chip (SOC) with updatable firmware that is accessed by your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. By downloading the Open Source App (available here), the robot can be controlled as the user sees fit thanks to the open source nature of the beast.

BERO uses two infrared transmitters to navigate around obstacles that it can detect up to 3.5” away to the left, front and right. The project is currently in the midst of its Kickstarter campaign and seems to be steadily progressing towards their goal of $38,900. Check out this BERO video below courtesy of Mashable.

I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The problem is something not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy I found this during my search for something concerning this.- jzborogun
