The larger than life sprinter who is the unquestioned fastest man in the world has been bested by a four-legged robotic cheetah. Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, who has been clocked at 27.79 mph can only watch the video we have included below helplessly as the awkward Transformers-inspired creature clocks in at an impressive 28.3 mph.
Created by Boston Dynamics, the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) project was created with military warfare in mind. Known as the Cheetah, the machine has an awkward yet effective running style. While human’s are limited by their endurance levels, the DARPA robot can seemingly run for extended periods without any type of fatigue or strain.
DARPA attempted to break Bolt’s record earlier this year however failed to exceed speeds in the 18 mph range. The changes that have been made since have clearly put to robo-cat over the top. Check out the video below from DARPA, who are the same people who brought us the internet years ago.
