Every other day a smartphone manufacturer rolls out a new handset but on Friday, May 17th United Kingdom-based telecom carrier Vodafone has launched its very own budget smartphone called Smart III. The new handset is actually an inexpensive Android smartphone that is running Jelly Bean 4.1 and customers in the UK can get it for less than £99 or $150 US dollars. However, a low price does not mean at all that Vodafone’s Smart III lacks top features, as the carrier has made it known that the device boasts a 4-inch display, 5-megpixel rear camera, 4GB of internal storage plus microSD card slot to amplify its memory up to 32GB. Moreover, the videos that users will shoot with their Smart III camera can be easily uploaded to YouTube and Facebook.

As far as the weight of Smart III is concerned it comes in at just 136 grams, whereas the thickness of the device is 10.9mm which is perfect for a handset of its size. For the time being Smart III is only available for Vodafone users in the UK, as the carrier has not made it known whether it will launch the new Android smartphone in other parts of the world. CNET has reported that Alcatel is the manufacturer of Smart III along with numerous inexpensive Android smartphones.

Vodafone has released complete details regarding the new handset on its official blog:

“Sometimes getting the latest tech requires you to shell out more of your hard-earned than you’d like. But, you know what? That doesn’t have to be the case. That’s why, here at Vodafone, we’ve been working on something special – something that combines the best of Android with a really wallet-friendly price. What we’ve come up with is this: The Vodafone Smart III.

The Vodafone Smart III is a 4-inch smartphone with a difference. On the surface it’s a handsome beast, and on the inside it’s suitably powerful and modern, but the price may surprise you… See, it’s a window into the world of Android Jelly Bean, and it’s only £95 on Pay as you go, and available with no upfront costs from £13 a month on 24 month price plans.

Box of tricks

Ok, so what does that get you? Aside from the sprightly WVGA 4-inch display and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), the Smart III boasts a 5-Megapixel camera with LED flash, 3G, WiFi and GPS.

All that’s kept ticking along nicely with a 1GHz processor backed up by 512Mb of RAM, and there’s also full access to the Google Play Store, which brings with it hundreds of thousands of apps and games, alongside movies, music, ebooks and digital magazines.”
