Canadian enterprise software firm Vuuch wants to make communication and relationship building in enterprises a major part of resource planning. Chris Williams, the CEO of the Sudbury based firm, stated that, “When we realized the way to accomplish the goal was to take a social approach and represent the reasons why people are connected in the business.” He continued, “While we started around engineering objects and CAD models, what we quickly realized is the approach is really applicable to any business process inside the company.”
Williams spoke a little more about his 10-member company and stated that the firm’s name was derived from the word vouch, which translates to ‘summons the truth.’ He goes on to say that, “One of the ideas behind naming the company was that it should be a noun/verb/adjective, so we use the word vouch. We think we know the truth about what goes on at work and how people are related at work.”
Vuuch was created in 2009 and their enterprise software is developed for large industrial firms. Some major players on the list include Whirlpool, Rubbermade Medical Solutions, Tupperware, and Nacco Materials Handling. All these enterprises utilize Vuuch to connect “discussions from emails, notes, and supporting documents to keep the conversation focused on deliverables.”
Vuuch CEO Williams goes into more details about how the software works by explaining that, “First, it understands common file types such as Office documents and CAD formats. Second, it ‘fingerprints’ those files so that Vuuch can maintain the social relationship between the file, the metadata the team associates with the file and the people invited to the Vuuch page that represents the file. Vuuch adds a social capability to PDM that PDM would otherwise not be able to achieve.”
Vuuch regularly updates its software so that their client gets the most up to date solution possible. The current version is Vuuch 5.2 and the firm releases an update every 90 days. The newest installment came with a brand new activity stream and digest.
In order to grow even more, the Vuuch team decided to join the Autodesk partner network. Now the firm’s enterprise software will be connected to the Autodesk Design Suites for manufacturers. Williams states that, “Autodesk is really the only PLM provider that has really embraced the cloud. It’s really a huge opportunity from a marketing and presence perspective. They put a lot of emphasis on an app store that’s focused on applications that connect to their products. It helps solve a customer problem and for us it’s a significant marketing opportunity.”
The CEO also has ambitious plans for the near future. Vuuch is looking to raise its first round of capital and further expand the business. The company is also looking to add more customers to their roster so that they can ramp up their expansion.
