Social media is everywhere. Just like having a company website is essential for marketing and public relations strategy, there are a number of companies that in order to communicate their messages to the general public and other audience utilize social media channels. But what role a social media platform plays in the life of a CEO of the company? Is there any place for them on these social media networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.? Is using social media is useful or harmful to their company?

The CEO of global public relations firm Weber Shandwick, Andy Polansky answer (via Forbes) some questions in this regard. He has spent 30 years in Weber Shandwick and seen a number of transformations in the PR industry. When asked about his opinion about using social media as a CEO, he said:

“It is necessary for a CEO to find the best possible ways online and offline to communicate with the general public and other important audience for marketing and public relations strategy for their company, but it must be in an authentic way. Using social media network in order to enhance the company’s reputation business results, employee communications and tell stories around innovation than it is not wrong.”

He mentioned that a lot CEOs are directly or indirectly engaged with their audience through multiple social media platforms and predicted that in future even more CEOs would be utilizing this tool to communicate with their staff and external audience.

Today more CEOs are joining social media platform as these platforms as compare to other communication channels allow two-way conversations. Not only can we share our opinions but also listen to the feedbacks and opinions from employees, clients, the general public or the media.

But there are some hurdles as well. One has to ensure authenticity in this process and if the process is not authentic the entire purpose of communicating with your audience is lost.
