Research In Motion had earlier stated that by the time they launched BlackBerry 10 and related devices, there would be over 70,000 apps available on the BlackBerry World app store. The Canadian company did not mention how many major apps would make it to the final list, but famous weather app, The Weather Network, failed to hide its excitement and revealed that their application will be available on latest BlackBerry 10 platform at once. Early adopters of BB10 devices should not face a problem in getting weather updates.
The Director of Mobile Applications and Emerging Technologies of The Weather Network, Gait Ashar has made this announcement by saying that, “As a Canadian leader in mobile app development, The Weather Network is delighted to launch the first major weather information app for BlackBerry 10. The team has worked closely with RIM to develop a unique and interactive app that will provide BlackBerry 10 users in Canada, the U.S. and beyond with the most up-to-date weather information direct to their new devices.”
This was not the first time that The Weather Network has developed an app for RIM, as back in 2006 when even Apple has not introduced its famous iPhone, the company has produced an application for the BlackBerry maker. That app has been downloaded by BlackBerry users over 14 million times so far. But now BB10 users will use the latest app of The Weather Network that “draws on the device’s native features, like the new built-in camera, allowing users to upload photos onto The Weather Network website for a more engaging weather-forecasting experience. Follow-Me functionality detects a user’s location automatically to determine the local forecast, while BlackBerry 10’s new Peek feature is also incorporated for easy multi-tasking.”
Ashar also said that, “The team at The Weather Network has worked in partnership with RIM to develop an innovative weather forecasting application designed specifically for BlackBerry 10 users. As two uniquely Canadians companies who have been working in partnership for the past six years, we’re excited to stand alongside RIM and launch an industry-leading app for BlackBerry 10.”
