As they expand their ever expanding global network, San Francisco based CloudFlare opened their 18th international location in Toronto, Ontario earlier this month. The company specializes in optimizing website speed, performance and security in both paid and free service options.

The data center is based on the demand in Canada, which ranks seventh in CloudFlare traffic according to the company’s co-founder, Saskatchewan native Michelle Zatlyn (shouts to TechVibes). The centre will take load away from current facilities in Chicago and Newark, allowing for increased performance in Canada.

CloudFlare prides itself on offering the web master everyman the resources much larger players have available to them in terms of website performance and security. In order to do so, the company uses advanced optimization software known as Railgun to speed up the non-cached content to reduce bandwidth use. The performance improvements are massive, allowing the ability to deliver in one packet what used to take 200. That type of efficiency also presents significant cost savings, always a win regardless of the client.

According to TechVibes, CloudFlare has raised over $20 million in funding. The company also experiences more traffic than huge web presences Amazon, Wikipedia, Zynga, Instagram, AOL and Twitter combined. That is an absolutely incredible thing to fathom.
