Whatsapp is a popular cross platform messaging system that lets users on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Symbian powered phones communicate with each other freely. Reserach In Motion was drawn to the apps popularity and the number of users the chat system could help bring to its platform. That is why the Canadian company spoke with the developers of WhatsApp to bring them over to the new BlackBerry 1o platform. So far nothing has materialized from the negotiations between RIM and the WhatsApp team. Observers are positive that something may happen because the Whatspp developers have not abandoned BlackBerry and only recently released the new version of their app numbered 2.9.571 which gives Blackberry users a free of charge lifetime usage of the app.

Sadly the exclusive offer by Whatsapp for Blackberry users was a result of an error in the updated version. There was another quick update and the app was fixed and finally the latest 2.9.653 version was released. There was no free life time offer in the new version and this may disappoint a lot of users

So far developers have submitted 15,000 apps for the new platform from RIM, which is good omen for the company and also validates its CMO’s statement in which he said that their software will offer 70,000 apps during the launch of BB10 devices and OS January 30. The struggling smartphone maker is in a life or death scenario and it has pinned all its hopes on the upcoming BB10 platform.
