As 2012 is about to end various media sites and channels are either lining up their reviews of the entire year for release or have already issued them. Yahoo Canada also falls in this category of media sites that regularly releases its interesting review report each year.
Following in its tradition, Yahoo! Canada recently revealed its 8th annual Year in Review that includes fascinating events, stories and the diverse things that were able to capture the attention of the Canadian nation during this year. On this occasion, representative of this multinational corporation, Justine Melman said that, “Yahoo! Canada’s Year in Review 2012 reflects the daily search habits of users and highlights the top stories and trends based on what millions of people worldwide searched for,” says. “It is a distinct way to portray a society in motion through online behaviour.”
In this 8th review the most startling and eye-catching thing was the Top Ten List of Searches that Canadians conducted during 2012. According to this list the top most searched thing in 2012 was neither iPhone 5 nor Gangname Style and not even the famous Miss Universe Canada Jenna Talackova, it was:
1. Kate Middleton
2. iPhone 5
3. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
4. Fifty Shades of Grey
5. Higgs Boson
6. Hurricane Sandy
7. Jessica Simpson

As far as top news searches are concerned, the reports of Facebook’s IPO were searched more than any other news. After that, Canadians tried to look for news related to the downfall of Blackberry maker Research In Motion. The Mars Curiosity project and the XL Food beef recall were also in the top ten news searches in the same category.
In sports news search, the NHL Lockout remained the top story for Canadians and it was followed by the doping scandal of Lance Armstrong and Euro 2012 news.
Although Gangname Style failed to top the most searched item, it was at the top in the obsessions chart. Yahoo’s obsession list also included Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift and Paulina Gretzky.
