On April 17, 2014 a baby girl was born to the youngest parents in the UK. The 12 year old mother and 13 year old father barely out of diapers themselves welcomed their daughter with both mother and child reported to be in good health. The baby weighed just over 3 kilos at birth.
Regardless of their young age, the girl’s father, whose identity has not been disclosed, told a local radio program that he is a proud grandfather. In the interview, the man said the family was left in the dark about the pregnancy until the child (the mother) was 8 months pregnant. The couple met in 2012 when she was 10 and he 12 and revealed that from then on, they were “completely in love.” according to the girl’s father said.
For the time being, government social services have agreed to provide emotional support to the children aged parents. This type of news may prove to be a precursor to an alarming trend as pre-teens become more sexually involved and explorative without the full scope of understanding what it takes day in and day out to be a parent.
