Google owned YouTube has been making moves to become not on the top streaming site on the internet but also on your TV. The user generated content site announced on January 3 that it would be releasing a new feature that would allow users to turn their smartphones or other mobile devices into a remote for YouTube.
The new capability is straight forward and gives the user a “send to TV” feature. If a viewer finds a video on their mobile device they like they can move it to their TV and watch it on a much larger screen. This is similar to what Android users can do with Google TV. The streaming video site believes that its new feature is a much more efficient way to discover content through smartphones and tablets to view on TVs.
The Google owned firm will be showcasing its new feature at the 2013 CES in Las Vegas. This will not be the only technology Google will be displaying and it is scheduled to bring out YouTube that has been optimized for viewing on large screen televisions. According to reports this new feature should work with a number of different set-top boxes and TVs. Brands like Bang & Olufsen, LG, Panasonic, Sony, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio, Western Digital, and some others are expected to have products that will work smoothly with the new YouTube capability.
