YouTube did some end of year cleaning as it removed bot views from channels so that the fraudulent views did not count towards a video total. The fraudulent views were taken away from prominent channels that belong to RCA Records, Universal Music Group and Sony BMG. In addition to this, a lot of music-related content that was not properly licensed or did not meet the sites policies were eradicated. However, VEVO was untouched my the move and had no bot views removed.

The  Google owned website has been dealing with problems with botting for a long time. The practice of bogus views is quite similar to people paying for likes on Facebook or fake followers on Twitter.

Universal Music Group had the most fraudulent views removed from its channel with a total of 1,015,813,000 bot views. Sony BMG was second in line with just over 850 million views, whereas the RCA Records saw 159 million bot views dropped.

As a result of this move now the YouTube archives of each label are astonishingly more slim than before. Now Universal Music is left with just five videos on its channel, while Sony is absolutely empty. Besides these three prominent channels YouTube has removed views from more than 500 of its channels which includes Chris brown, Michael Jackson, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce and others.
