One of Western Canada’s first daily deal sites, Grooster announced today via their blog that they have been acquired by Vancouver’s own CityXpress, an e-commerce publishing company.  CityXpress is best known for their own daily deal site which was developed in tandem with PostMedia Network that is called SwarmJam. It is expected that CityXpress will use Grooster’s intimate knowledge and strong relationships with local retailers and vendors to offer better marketing and advertising programs to online publishers.

As part of the acquisition, Grooster’s CEO and Founder, Lesel Radage will become the VP of Business Development at CityXpress. According to this post, he will spearhead several products and services currently in City’s pipeline. According to CityXpress, two new products will be launched later this year: the CityGuide, an online magazine that compliments the existing SwarmJam offers as well as the expansion of the Reward Points program. Both products strive to generate revenues and develop customer loyalty by connecting local merchants with local customers, something Grooster’s team has done well with in the past.

CityXpress boasts international publishers as their clients and have sold well over $400 billion in products and services on behalf of 200,000 local vendors. The acquisition marks an exciting event for Grooster, as they were held in high enough regard to be swooped up to add and grow with a large advertising concern.
