Apple‘s stock recently went in a direction that has been rarely seen the last couple of years after the company released its quarterly report to the public. The falling stock prices were attributed to news that the iPhone had less than expected demand and Apple had ended up cutting orders for parts. The drop in price also caused the technology giant to slip from its position as the world’s most valuable company as Exxon took its place. CEO Tim Cook was not concerned about the recent stock price fluctuation and gave his corporate employees a very positive message during a speech that looked back at his first year tenure as the head of the company.
After Steve Jobs passed away, Cook took over as CEO in 2011. Many were concerned that he might not be able to do what Jobs had been able to accomplish with the company. However, Apple ended up with $54 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2012 and Cook commented that, “We just had the best quarter of any technology company ever.” He went on to say that, “The only companies that report better quarters pump oil. I do not know about you all, but I do not want to work for those companies.”
Cook also hit back at critics by saying that people would always have negative opinions. He commented that the record breaking earnings and stock prices were the summation of the corporations good work and efforts.
Cook also talked about the company’s supply chain and manufacturing which has been criticized by many. He said, “We want our partners to be as ethical as we are.” The California based firm will now ask third-party accessory manufacturers to run work with Apple’s supply chain standards.
Cook also mentioned that the company was looking to bring jobs back t the U.S. by shifting the manufacturing of one Mac state side. Apples plans to do this in 2013 and increase manufacturing of Macs to fill demand that Cook claims was not being met and caused lower sales.
Another interesting move from Apple according to Cook is the company’s decision to power all its data centers with renewable energy.
Cook also mentioned competitors in his speech and why Apple was still better. He singled out Google and their mobile operating system, Android. The Apple CEO claimed that his company had happier customers and also stated that iOS has more web traffic. According to Cook, even though Android had more users, iOS were actually using their mobile devices more often.
As to Apple’s biggest competitor, Google, and Android’s competition with Apple iOS, Cook argued that that his company had the happier customers. Cook also claimed that the Android strategy was different from Apples. He stated that his firm chose to give users an experience with the highest quality while Google was going after market share only.
