Microsoft is trying to bring more developers and applications to its fast growing Windows Phone App Ecosystem. The technology giant recently unveiled a new developer contest with a tasty prize for the winner.
The contest is open for all developers worldwide and is the technology giant’s way to entice more developers to build applications for smartphones running Windows 8. Those wishing to participate, only need to opt-in at Microsoft’s Dev-Centre by March 5, with Microsoft adding the entire app catalogue into the contest.
All applications entered into the contest will be judged on the ratings and user reviews received as well as implementation of the new features that have been enabled by Windows 8. From all submissions 64 applications will be selected that will then go head-to-head with user votes deciding the winners.
The final application standing will receive a prominent display on Windows Phone advertising during Prime Time on American television. Additionally the 64 apps selected will also win tonnes of prizes and giveaways including a free year subscription to the Dev-Centre as well as Nokia Lumia phones.
Everyone can take part with the only rule being that those entering must be 18-years-old.
Microsoft in a statement to developers about the contest said:
“This isn’t just about picking the most popular app in the Store. Windows Phone Next App Star is about giving developers a shot at being the next big hit. You don’t have to be a longtime developer on the Windows Phone platform — even a newcomer can win fans and win big.”
This is a great way for developers to bring their apps to the forefront as well as build a base in the fast growing app world of Microsoft.
