We at TQ have updated you earlier that Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note III and Galaxy Gear smartwatch at the upcoming IFA 2013 in Berlin. Now an executive of Samsung, Lee Young-hee has divulged that the much anticipated Galaxy Gear smartwatch of the company will make its debut on September 4 in IFA event. The Young-hee revealed this news while talking with Korea Times. Below are few interesting quotes from The Verge’s report in which Young-hee had talked about the new smartwatch of his company.
“The device will be based on Android and feature a “non-flexible” display. Lee calls the Galaxy Gear a “wearable concept device,” which raises the question: will Samsung sell its smartwatch to the mass market? Lee adds that Samsung is “confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry,” implying the device is just an early exploration of a potential market, rather than one aimed at mainstream adoption.”
The use of word “concept” by Young-hee suggests that Samsung perhaps is looking make a “test” entry by launching the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in order to see how consumers will react to the new device. This suggests that if the new smartwatch of Samsung remains successful only then the company will roll out the next editions of the device.
Rumours have indicated that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch would come with a touchscreen and users would be able to send and receive text messages through it. In addition, it is also said that the owners of the smartwatch would also be able to listen to their favourite music on this device by connecting headphones with it.
However, it is not clear whether the Galaxy Gear smartwatch would replace the smartphones, as previously leaked images had revealed that the device is receiving signals just like a cellphone. But some reports have claimed that the smartwatch would work more as an accessory with a smartphone rather than becoming a substitute of the mobile phone.
Nevertheless all doubts regarding the Galaxy Gear are now about to get clear, as just a few days from now onwards Samsung will officially introduce the new smartwatch of the company along with its list of specs and features. So now all we have to do is to wait for September 4, when the curtain will be raised from the most anticipated smartwatch of the year.
To the extent Galaxy Note III is concerned one cannot overruled the launch of the next-gen phablet as well.
