Considering the strong growth in the number of Twitter users in Korea, the American micro blogging site has big plans for its brand new office in the country. Vice President of Marketing Development for the Asia-Pacific region for Twitter, James Kondo, laid down Twitter’s plans in a press conference late last week.

According to details given to the media, Twitter will focus on building partnerships with local superstars and brand names as well as adding localised features to service the users in the country. The already established office in Korea will sign up local talent which will help the company reach its goals.

Twitter has earmarked Korea as a budding market for its service because of the rapid growth of internet users due to the excellent services provided by local mobile networks and broadband companies.

Twitter’s VP of Growth, International and Revenue, Othman Laraki said that, “[Korea is] a country where we’ve seen a lot of early adopters that have taken to Twitter in a very energetic way and we don’t necessarily see that in all countries.”

As result of the aforementioned, Twitter is now not only looking to hire local celebs and affiliate itself with local brand names, it is also building partnerships with phone manufacturers like LG and Samsung, mobile operators, talent agencies and media companies. Twitter is also working with large local firms like LG Uplus, the third major mobile network in Korea, and Daum, second most famous web portal in Korea.

Last April, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo stated that his company was “aggressively” hiring engineers and sales personnel in Japan after setting up their base in the country. At the time, Japan had the third largest number of users of this social website and the set up there has helped the company spread its wings in Korea.
